Greek yoghurt at Aldi, sandwiches at Tesco: each supermarket’s most-logged own-label food
Key findings
Each supermarket’s own label shows up differently in UK food diaries. Aldi’s most-logged own-label food was Greek yoghurt (18.9%), Lidl’s protein yoghurt (19.0%), Tesco’s sandwiches and wraps (17.4%) and Co-op’s too (24.2%).
The discounters’ own labels are logged as yoghurt; the big four and the Co-op as lunch. That’s the split in UK ParrotPal members’ diaries when we take each supermarket’s own-label foods and rank them by how many members logged them.
18.9%of Aldi own-label loggers logged Greek yoghurt
Most-logged own-label food, by supermarket
Share of its own-label loggersAt Sainsbury’s and Asda the top own-label food was chicken breast (14.7% and 10.4%). Iceland’s list is short (only 2 foods reach 50 members), both chicken.
How widely each own label reached members varied too: from 31.3% for Tesco to 3.6% for Iceland. The smaller the store’s group, the fewer foods clear our 50-member floor.
Shares are within each store’s own-label loggers, so they compare what each store’s own label is used for, not which store is bigger.
What this means
Aldi and Lidl own label turns up in diaries as high-protein dairy; Tesco, Co-op and M&S own label as grab-and-go lunch.

Method in brief. UK ParrotPal members’ anonymised food diaries, 1 February to 31 August 2026 (members whose app is set to UK time; internal accounts and deleted entries left out). A share is the share of members in the group who logged the item at least once, so it counts people, not entries. Own label is matched on the brand members logged (each store’s own brands and sub-brands). Ties are shown together.
Aggregates only: every group shown has 50 or more members and no share rests on fewer than 10. Patterns in what members logged, not causes. who’s counted · the 50/10 rule · logged isn’t eaten · how foods are named and counted.
