Drinking days climb through the week: 7.8% on Tuesdays, 9.6% on Wednesdays and 11.2% on Thursdays. Across all days it was 12.2%.

Beer and wine lead the drinks list: 17.3% of members logged beer or lager, 9.5% white wine and 9.4% red wine. Rosé is the most female-leaning drink: women were 3.6 times as likely as men to log it.

Food diaries are known to under-record alcohol, and more so at weekends, so these are floors, not drinking rates.

What this means

The diary’s drinking week peaks on Saturday, not Friday, and Sunday still sits above any weekday.
